10 Weirdest Foods In The Globe

For a reading activity, I had to watch a video on the ten weirdest foods across the globe, then make a DLO on what I had witnessed.
Beware: This is disgusting and I would not recommend watching if you are eating because it may possibly put you off your food entirely.

Counting In Te Reo

This week, for a language task, I had to make a DLO of the basics in counting in Te Reo.
I find counting in Te Reo very easy so that is why I want to show everyone else how to.

Learning German

The country we are learning about for Reading this week is, German.
I have done some saying in English then used google translate to translate the words to German.
I have also done an audio to help you pronounce the words.
What saying do you like the best?

Ordering Measurements

Yesterday I was ordering some measurements form smallest to largest.
Down below, where the grid is, that is where I have done my working out.
If you do not agree with my answers please let me know.

Converting Length

Yesterday and today I have been working on converting lengths, this was part of a maths activity.
If you do not agree with my answers please tell me.

Spelling Bee Study #1

This week instead of Steps, I had to find a meaning and sentence for these 20 words.
Most of the words I had, I had never heard of before, so I found it a little challenging to find a meaning and a sentence for them. What is your favourite word?

The Maths Challenge

Another maths activity was to do a Sudoku/maths challenge. I made a copy of the slideshow that the teachers had created and did both Sudoku's. One the left side of the page is what we were meant to start with and the right side is me completing it.Do you like Sudoku?

Length

For a maths activity I had to compare the measurements and state whether you put in '< , >, =,'.
Down below, I have put in a grid showing roughly how I worked the equation out.
Do you know how to do this?

Hit The Button #1

This week, I have done 'Hit The Button' as my warm up for maths.
Have you heard of 'Hit The Button'?

To Trap A Thief

Here a book cover for To Trap A Thief that I had to do for a reading activity.
I drew the bike and created the walls. I did not what I wanted it to look like at the start but now I have a finished piece that I am proud of. What do you think?

Beware

For the 'Reading Between The Lines' slideshow we had to design a 'Wanted' poster for a character from our book.
I chose Frank.
I used Canva to do the poster, as it is really easy to design on that website.
What would you do if you found him?

The Schedule

For a reading activity we had to create a daily schedule for the main character of a book.
This activity was apart of the reading between the Lines Slideshow.
The main character has a job.

Reading Between The Lines - Not Finished Yet

For some reading, I have been working through this slideshow that the senior's teacher's have made for us. I am just over half way through, so hopefully I will finish it all next week.

Basically the slideshow has got us to do heaps of activities relating to a book that we have read recently, to extend our comprehension of a text using understand, analyse and design.
I am not going to tell you the book because I do not want to spoil the ending for you but I will give you one clue. It is written by Des Hunt, a New Zealand author.
Can you guess what book it is?

Challenge Accepted

I have finished steps!
Last week I set myself a challenge, to finish steps before we go back to school. And that is exactly what I did. Last week, I finished at level 5B and now the end of this week I have past level 6 5-8.
At the end, the words I had to spell got a challenging but from finding little ways to remember the words, I now know how to spell them.
Do you have little ways to remember how to spell words?

I do Surf Life Saving at South New Brighton Surf Club.
I started when I was only 4 1/2 and have progressed, achieved, built confidence ever since.
I am now 11, so for 6 1/2 years!
This year I got 2 trophies, I have never got one from the surf club for anything so to have 2 in 1 year, I am thrilled. Check the last google drawing for more information.
Have you ever got a sports award before from your club?

Happy Mother's Day

For this Mother's Day, I made my Mum some Afghans and she really liked them.
I used the Edmond's cookbook for the recipe, used chocolate icing for the top and had a Hershey's kisses instead of the walnut.
What did you do for your Mum for Mother's Day?

Have You Been Reading Books?

I have been reading books over the last 8 weeks and here are all of them.
Have you read any of these books?
Do you recommend any that I could read after Awful Auntie?

Quote 5 By A.A. Milne

The SLJ website got me to pick a quote from this website and design it in a google drawing.
I chose quote 5. In my eyes, A.A. Milne is talking about believing in yourself and not judging yourself because really you are amazing.
What quote speaks to you?

With publishing this quote I drew the muscles but got the fist from the internet.

What Are Your Favourite Songs

For part of the SLJ (Summer Learning Journey) I had to list my top 5 artists/bands and my top 5 songs. I have heaps of songs that I love so it was very difficult to state my top 5.
What is your favourite song and artist/band?

N.B. The underlined words have links to them

The Language Of Shakespeare

A Summer Learning Journey task was to write about your morning, then using a translating tool of Shakespeare  translate the writing.
I had no idea that he had created a language, as I have never read one of his books.
Have you heard of Shakespeare language before?

Vietnam

For my google meet with my class, we had to pick a country/destination and give 3-5 facts on that place. I chose Vietnam as not many people know too much about Vietnam, plus, I love Vietnamese food!

I got the images from the internet and have linked where they have come from below the image. I created the flag by tracing the image's outline.
From this little project, I have learnt a lot. The one fact that surprised me the most was that a Water Buffalo is the national animal.
What has surprised you?

The Deathly Hallows

For a Summer Learning Journey activity, I had to design a new cover of your favourite book. I have many favourite books, though I chose to do Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7).
I traced all the images by going over the outlines using the polyline tool. Ron was the easiest to trace.
I will not explain the images meaning as it will give away the ending.
I hope you like it.

Dear Jacinda

Another activity from the Summer Learning Journey got me to write a letter to Jacinda Ardern about a situation/idea/complaint that needs to be solved.
I chose water safety.
Did you know that Waikato's Sunset Beach is the most dangerous beach in New Zealand with the most amount of rescues?
Do you think my letter is important?
Dear Jacinda

Dear Jacinda Ardern,

Did you realise, around 60 people each year loose their lives from
drowning! Those poor 60 families and friends grieving for that person
who could have been alive, married and enjoying life. Only if that person
knew how to swim and how to deal with the conditions.
But no, those 60 people did not get taught, because it was not
compulsory. Now, it is time to change.

At the moment, school children are getting a lesson on beach safety
once every 2nd year, that is  1 in 170 days of learning. And only in
Summer, do schools teach the children how to swim, and that is not even
proper swimming, just random techniques that will not last even 1 hour in
the rapid, washing machine water. That is not enough to prevent these
lives being taken away.

In New Zealand, we should have swimming teachers working at the schools. '
Plus, more pools for the schools to use.
The swimming teacher can just work in the pool and teach all the
children how to swim.
In Winter, the swimming teacher could do lessons on technique and
speed. In Summer they could teach us beach and river safety in the pool.
Once or twice, for school trips, we should go to the beach and swim.
The pools should be a 25 metre pool,  at 1 end it should be
for a 5 year olds height, and at the other end, 185cm deep.

This could work, to improve our swimming ability, plus on another
subject, get more New Zealand swimmers to the Olympics.
Are you in, to making a difference?

Steps - Week 2

Here is all my steps for this week. I am now at level 5 4B.
The words are definitely getting more challenging with some I have never heard of before.
Are there are any words you have not heard of?
