10 Key Words

From this article Here, we had to find the definition for 10 key words on Climate Change. I decided to present my visual on Powtoon, just to make it a little interesting.  Are any of these 10 words unfamiliar to you?

Protect Our Planet

Our reading focus this week was... Climate Change.

For this activity we had to make a visual with audio on ten tasks we can do to help save our planet. We sourced the information from this article Here.

What are you doing to help the environment?

Relate With The Author

It's Refugee Day on Thursday 24th June. So the theme this for this weeks reading activities were... Refugee's.
In this task, we had to to copy a google drawing and then answer the questions in the table from reading an article on Refugee's . Our learning intentions are to relate to what the author is saying. I struggled with the 'Why has the writer chosen to use these words?' as I did not quite get the question and for me, it is hard to figure out why the author chose those exact words.
In doing this activity I have discovered a new tool for google drawing, by right clicking on a word, you can then press 'define  (word)' and it will give you the exact meaning of that word. Try it out sometime. Have you ever discovered a handy tool that you use frequently?

Google Drawing that my teacher created which we made a copy of, then filled out the questions in the table.

Refugee

On Thursday 24th, it is World Refugee Day. So Miss McCombie based the reading activities this week on Refugee's. One of the activities was too read a Red Cross article about Refugee's and then create an acrostic poem explaining about what a Refugee has to go through.  Do you know a refugee who has had to flee their country?

Lion

At school we have a Wide Reading awards where you can get badges for reading books and different genres. There are 3 badges; Bronze, Silver, Gold. Each badge has different genres that you must read.

To get your badges..

  • Bronze - read 10 books, write 1 book review
  • Silver - read 25 books, write 1 book review
  • Gold - read 50 books, write 1 book review
So far, I have achieved my Bronze badge and at the moment working towards my Silver. I want to complete my Silver by the end of term 2 and complete my Gold by week 3 of term 4. Do you think I can achieve my goals?

So down below is my book review that I had to complete when working for the Silver badge. I reviewed the non-fiction novel: Lion.  Further down the page, is my book review for Bronze. I reviewed: The naming of the land.

1st Place

A couple of weeks ago, Belfast School advertised a competition to make a visual about how to be road safe for road safety week and a visual on how to be an upstander for upstander week

I created a Canva poster for the upstander competition but did not place. In the other competition for road Safety, I got 1st place, which was great! Luna, Leandri, Anna-lee, Ariana, and I made an imovie for it.  The process included..

  1. I wrote a script
  2. videoed the scenes
  3. Put it altogether in the Imove
  4. Leandri edited some parts and added in background music
I hope you enjoy our winning road safety video.

This my Canva poster I made for the Upstander Competition.
