I Am Famished, I Am Dying, Painfully

For our writing today in Miss Roger's Writing Class we had to describe how a person from our storytelling story 'The Wayfinder' was feeling when they were out of food and water while voyaging across the ocean in search of new land on their canoe. I have not really specified who I have chosen, just a person ravenous for food. The purpose of this, was to improve our description skills as that is what we are working on this term. Down below is my paragraph that we had to write in 5 minutes for how the person is feeling being being starved out in the middle of no where. Because we only did have 5 minutes, I did not have a chance to write too much. Has there ever been a time when you were super hungry that you thought you were about to die?

I am Famished, I Am Dying - Painfully

My drawl is now a snake, slithering down my chin, landing on my chest. I have been trying to think of when I last ate for 9 hours now by my brain is a pom pom, frizzy and useless. The after taste of the fish I ate 3 weeks ago has now left my quivering mouth. My stomach is as empty as a termite infested lemon tree, as hallow as a rip of Easter Egg. Oh those kumura I am forever dreaming, those banana's I am forever craving.

Police Competancy Test

Last Friday (19th March), 2 Year 8 girls, 2 Year 7 Girls, 2 Year 8 Boys and 2 Year 7 Boys went with Miss McCombie and Miss Roger to Cowles Stadium for the morning to compete at the Canterbury Police Comptancy Test (PCT).

At the PCT, Belfast School had two teams a Year 7 team and a Year 8 team. We left school at 7:30am to drive over to Cowles Stadium. At 9am, everyone started getting signed in. At 9:15 am we departed in our different groups, Belfast was lucky and both got to be in the green group.

The actual PCT  obstacle  course where you had to push wheelie bins around cones (which is trickier than it sounds), jump through window structures, climb over walls and gates, walk along a balance beam, while you were being timed and heaps of police officers were watching you. The team/school with the quickest time (which ended up being Marshland's) got to have an all expenses paid trip to the Wellington Police Academy to compete at the National PCT Course. While 2nd and 3rd got a blue light BBQ held at their school.

Before we completed the actual PCT, we got to try out Archery, find out how fast we are with the speed gun a police officer was using, look inside a police car and do some fun teamwork activities with Youth Alive workers.

After finishing the PCT everyone got free sausages. I worked out, that for our school team, if we had had to pay, it would have costed $22 for just sausages that we ate while we were there! Lucky they were free.

I extremely loved the morning out at the PCT and so did everyone else, we were all buzzing in the car on the way back to school.

Here are some of the photo's Miss Roger and Miss McCombie took while we there. Do you know of any sites I can use to display photo's, as I am getting tired of displaying them on google slides all the time?

For The Big Readers

In the post I have done below is the shortened version of this post with photo's of my experience on school camp in year 7/8. Here is the version with heaps of detail of what happened without any photo's. Choose either or both to read. I have done this because I write a lot of words and realised that people like to read shorter words especially if they are in a hurry. I admire people who are able to write very little but have added in the same amount of detail as me. What do you write, lots of words, or very little words with detail?

School Camp! At Hanmer Springs

A couple of weeks ago, the whole senior syndicate (80 children) drove up to Hanmer Springs on two buses with a whole heap of food, luggage and parent/teacher helpers where we stayed the Hanmer Springs Forest Camp for 2 nights, 3 days.

We had a blast. These are just some of the photos that were taken up there, altogether the teachers took 1500 photo's! Some of the highlights of going to camp was:

  • Socialising/connecting more with other people that are not in your usual classes
  • Going to Hanmer Springs Thermal Spa and hydro slides
  • Tree Climbing without having to worry about getting down or falling as you have harnesses on
  • Working as a team for Orienteering and Mission Impossible
  • Eating a lots of delicious food
  • Staying up late and doing a talent show with the syndicate - there was not much talent
After such an incredible, amazing, entertaining pact few days, we were exhausted, so we went home and hopefully had a great sleep over the weekend ready for school on Monday.
I have told my experience on camp, have you been on a school camp before? Was it the same one as mine?

Basing reading on the America's Cup this week and last week, we had to make a visual displaying what we found out about how many times countries have won the America's Cup and what countries have never won the America's Cup. I created my visual on google sheets, the link for you to view my data is up the top, my graph that shows which countries and how many times they have won the America's Cup is down below.

From reading all the results of the America's Cup, I realised only 4 countries (USA, New Zealand, Switzerland and Australia) have won an America's Cup, with USA winning 31! Italy, England, and Canada have also competed in the America's Cup but have never won it. I feel sorry for England because if you look at my data, England has competed in so many but has never won the oldest cup in sport history (The America's Cup), a lot of money is put into the America's Cup and for England, nothing has come out of it. At least New Zealand has won 4! We only started competing in the America's Cup once Australia broke USA in their winning streak.
