Quiz Time!

Here is part 2 of the ANZAC quiz.
It does not matter if you did not do part 1, as all the answers are in this slideshow.
This one is a bit more trickier so you will definitely need to read the information first.
The ones with check boxes mean that there is more than 1 right answer.
Good luck!

Watching TV - With A Twist

A challenge set by Miss McCombie, was to watch an episode or a movie with the subtitles on, so that we would read instead of watch.
I watched 'Dog Squad' which is about the police dogs and other dogs that help the community by;
finding animals to protect our native life, sniffing out bad people, finding lost people and many more.
Have you heard of 'Dog Squad'?

My Maths For The Week

How Much Do You Know About ANZAC? Part 1

Anzac day is soon, so an activity of what we had to do was:
Read a slideshows about Anzac day and present the information of your understanding.

So what I have done is presented the information on a google slide and just to check if you were reading, I have made up a quiz for you to fill in.
I am hoping the quiz gives you your answer straight away, if not, please leave a comment and I should be able to tell you your results. The quiz will not ask you for any personal information,it will just be questions related to Anzac and what is in the slideshow.
Good luck!
(This is my very first time making up a quiz on google forms, if anything goes wrong I really do encourage you to tell me in the comments, but please do be patient and kind about it)
Part 2 of a Quiz and information on ANZAC will be coming soon.

Have you heard of this program before?

Making Basil Pesto

Today for morning tea, Dad and I made basil pesto from the basil that was growing in the garden.
Basil pesto is delicious!
My Dad's one is way better than the shops as it is fresh, and probably healthier too.
Have you tried basil pesto before?
What is your favourite dip?
Mine would be guacamole though close behind would be basil pesto and chickpea hummus.

Wacky Hair Day

Today, for our Google Meet with the class, we had a theme going on, wacky hair Wednesday!

On Monday we had onesie, which was super snug and comfortable.
Yesterday (Tuesday) we had hat day, I chose a Summer sun cap as it is the closest piece of clothing (without freezing) of bringing me back to the Summer times.
Tomorrow (Thursday) it will be quiz day, where we are going to have this big quiz.
Friday, we are all going to dress up fancy.

What day do you like best?
I like the sound of Friday and I really liked onesie day too.

What are some more ideas for themes for our Google Meet?
Please comment in the comment box.

Baking Pikelets

Yesterday for morning tea, I baked some pikelets.
In the slideshow down below it will show some photos of my pikelets and how to make them.

I love making pikelets, they are easy and tasty. You can have all sorts on pikelets, and they can be savoury or sweet. I like having either jam or nutella. What do like having on them?
Have you ever made pikelets before? if not it is a great time to make them.

South Brighton Surf Life Saving Club To Build 2 Million Base

For one of the reading activities, we had to video ourselves on Screencastify reading an article from the news.
Like what I say in the video, is that, we all know what is happening in the world at the moment, so I thought, I would do a blast from the past that people might of not heard about before.
I do not really like Screencastify as I find when I get nervous, I stumble and mumble a little.
My computer was not working too well at the end to finish the Screencastify so please do have patience.
Have you ever done a Screencastify before? Do you like doing them?

Thank You

For my writing today, I chose a story starter  about the to simple words 'thank you' which  are highlighted blue in the writing.
I got the story starter from Pobble365.
When I write I have to be intrigued into what I am writing and have to enjoy it, if not it is horrible.
Today I was intrigued and in the right mood.
Do you like writing?

Thank You

“Thank you…” Two simple words, but such a powerful message...

It had never occurred to the tall, young passionate girl, Haylee that the two
precious words ‘Thank you’ would change her life until now.

In an average sized city at nearly the bottom of the earth there was a 14 year
old girl who everyone thought she had it all, but really in actual fact no one has
it all.
This 14 year old girl, was Haylee.
Haylee grew up on the east side of the city where she was always doing
activities like school events, sports and of course her favourite thing, surfing at
the beach. For her, surfing at the beach was the most remarkable activity on
earth, you got to breathe in the salty air, dive down below the swirling machine
of foam and escape the life of her own. If you wanted to find her, the first place
you would go, would be the beach. Whenever you asked her “Why do you love
it so much?” she would always reply with the same answer “The sea is always
changing, new swells are coming, the tide is differing, so I never want to miss
one thing.”

One day, when Haylee arrived at the beach, there was a group of boys around
the ages of 16-22, the clan of boys were just mucking around, running after
each other and trying to act all cool, except for one.
This boy, who looked around the age of 16, possibly the youngest of them all,
he was quite slim looking and had a few scars over his face.
Haylee noticed that this one was, instead of having fun, sitting quietly, looking
as though he was thinking hard about something.
After staring at him, she carried on to the waters edge where she jumped on
her blue and yellow swirled board and paddled out far to start catching the 2
foot waves.
After around an hour and a half of surfing, she walked on home and got
welcomed when opening the front door with the heartwarming smell of
Enchiladas, one of her top favourite meals.

The next day she was met when walking to the beach by the same group of
boys, but instead of them laughing and chattering they were fighting.
Not social fighting, but a full on physical fight with punching kicking,
scratching and slapping. Haylee could see the anger in their eyes like fire
burning. The boy, he had particularly noticed the other day was against 4
other boys that looked like they were around in their 20’s and had twice the
size in muscles. While 3 others were doing the worst thing of all laughing,
not breaking them apart, but laughing.
Haylee knew she had to do something because the 3 cowards who were
laughing were not.

It was just blur, all over in what felt like seconds.
Recapping what just happened, panting for air, red raw blood trickling down
her arm.

Haylee had jumped in the middle of it, with her arms out protecting the scar
faced dude. She was not even defending herself but defending him instead, a
very noble and brave thing to do.
The 4 older boys got the message after around 2 minutes of ferociously
attacking Haylee in all areas of her body.

Gasping for breathe, with surprise, she ran home. The first look at Haylee,
Mandy (Haylee’s Mum) looked like she was going to have kittens with the
shock of her 14 year old daughter had come pounding though the door with
her mouth bleeding, her arm dripping with blood, and, what looked like soon
to become bruises on her legs and other arm. The first thing Mandy said was
“What happened?” Haylee panted back with “Ring (pause) police (pause) boys
(point) fight (pause) me (pause) okay.”
Mandy rushed to the phone dialling the number 1-1-1,  while Haylee looked
like she was being beckoned to play dead.

Haylee awoke with the noise of sirens, squinting though her half shut, black
eyes, she was seeing flashing blue, red and yellow cars.

For Haylee, she was then being lifted into the back of an Ambulance while
being checked over by two middle aged females.

Waking up the next morning, she had a bandage around her right arm and, her
whole body felt like it was being squeezed into something half the size of her.
The next moment she was being delicately hugged around her worried, pale
looking Mum. “You were very brave yesterday, you know Haylee, not everyone
would have done what you did, breaking up a very aggravating fight. When you
feel well enough Haylee, you will be required to have an interview with one of
the officers regarding what you saw and did.” “Okay Mum.”
The questioning went well that afternoon with the kind officer who was very
good at listening Haylee’s side. “Thank you for your time and telling us
everything you saw, we really appreciate it.” “No worries” was the reply
Haylee gave the officer.

Th next day Haylee was discharged from the hospital where she brought
home a sling for her arm, some antibiotics and pain relief for her mouth, arms,
legs and eyes where she got battered that ended up bruised.
After about 3 weeks Haylee was feeling much better, well enough to go for a
surf down at the calming, relaxing beach.
Mandy was a little hesitant at first to allow her daughter to go by herself after
the incident, but some how Haylee managed to convince her with letting her go.

Once over the sand dune where she struggled a little with her mildly stiff body.
Haylee dropped her bag on the sand and was about to go down to the waters
edge and get in, when someone behind her coughed. But not a cough as if you
were sick but a cough meaning to get someones attention, and it did.
Haylee spun around, and there in front of her was the boy, the same boy that
she was defending from the 4 older boys, the same boy that had the 3 scars
marked right along his face.
“Thank you.” He said, then smiled and just walked away.
Haylee felt a tingle in her body and a warm sensation around her heart.

Haylee now knew what it felt to be truly thanked.

Ginny Weasley

For another one of our reading tasks, I had to draw a character from a book. I chose Ginny Weasley, my favourite character from Harry Potter.
This took me around 3 and 1/2 hours to draw.
The hardest part was matching all the colours of her hair as it is very difficult making them, you had to do the method of guessing the colour.
What part of her do you like the best?

BIDMAS

For my math, I have been learning the order of operation and I thought that I would remember it better if I made a google drawing explaining the format, and wondered if other people needed to learn as well.
Now that I know the format of BIDMAS I think I am going to find it very easy.
Have you learnt anything from this post?

Never Judge A Book By It's Cover

Another reading task this week was to pick a book and write a letter to the Author regarding your thought and opinions on that book, then post it onto your blog.
I chose J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter.
Who is your favourite author?

Dear JK Rowling,

You are my favourite Author of all time!

People say it is the characters that have changed  lives but in
fact without the writer there is no character.
I can not believe how many quotes there are and the amount
of life lessons that are taught.
Such as; Kreacher/Lilly Evans/Potter/Severus Snape taught me that love is the most powerful and important aspect in life,
Dobby/Sirius showed us that it does not matter where you
come from or where you are born our heart beats as one and
cares as one. There are so many more.

Today I realised something.
You have changed real life people for me, my background is in
fact Hermione, Harry and Ron which are in fact Emma
Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint! Before I read
Harry Potter, I  used to open a book to see if it was
interesting  and the first thing I did was check how small the
writing is, now it is the opposite because of you and your
incredible talent. No matter how big or small the print is, the words/story line is better.

The way you describe something is subtle but effective, you
do not over do the describing. I admire how many people you
have introduced into the books and how the relationships are
with them without the writing being to complex. My favourite
book was The Deathly Hallows because straight away I was sitting on my seat, my heart thumping wondering what will
happen next. I still need to read the Cursed Child though, plus
the other books like Magical Beasts And Where To Find Them.
But the scenario that we are in at the moment has left me
sadly to wait.

The only bad thing (It is not your fault), is that now, Emma
Watson has played Beauty And The Beast, she will now be
known with the next generation of kids as Belle where in our
generation, we see her as Hermione Granger the smart, bold
and passionate girl that you do not want to get into a fight
with!

You are a thoughtful and intelligent person, JK Rowling.
I wish you could write more Harry Potter books, maybe
regarding the next generation of the wizarding world, plus,
you could make a movie on the Cursed Child instead of it being
written and performed as a play.
Please, please, please keep writing and publishing,

Zara J

Blog Comments

Another reading activity was to comment on someones blog. Though, I thought I would be fair and comment on one person from each of the senior classes blogs.
I designed my layout carefully so it would be eye catching and the right amount of room.
What comment do you like the best?

Tiare

Hi Tiare,
That looks a lot of Prototecs and lot of persevering plus practicing!
When I did Prototec I had to be in the right mood to keep on practicing and persevering but when I was in the wrong kind of mood, my results were low and I could not focus.
In another post, you could highlight your best score so that we can easily find it and go 'Wow'!
Keep practicing,
Zara
Laisa
Kia ora Laisa,
That song had a real good beat to it. It must of taken at least a week to finish it.
You and Ashly could start a group where you make songs from authors on Chrome Music Lab and publish them on your blog.
Next time you could explain how you made it and why.
Good job,
Zara
Maia
Kia ora Maia,
I really love your short story of Paddington bear.
The ending is great with the hook that just makes me want to read more.
Do you want to go to Hollywood and meet Miley Cyrus? Is that why you wrote about it?
Did you think about maybe drawing Paddington Bear instead of a picture from the internet?
It looks like you have put a lot of effort into it, how long did it take you?
Looks awesome,
Zara

LJ
Kia ora LJ,
I love the detail you have put in each letter and how you made the letters stand out with the black.
What made you decide to design and colour this sign?
For the windows at my house, I decided to draw Easter eggs and put all sorts of patterns on them.
Have you thought about next time drawing Easter eggs, bunnies or baby animals?
Looks great,
Zara

Explorers

For the day 1 of the Summer Learning Journey that is running during this time I had to write 10 food items that I would take a long with me on a ocean voyage for 3 weeks that will not need freezing or refrigerating plus last without going moldy.
These 10 items, most of the time go well together.
What would you change to this list?

Poems

As part of our reading activities we had to pick a poem from the google and publish it on our blog with some images.
I ended up picking 2 poems from google and publishing them.
But then I thought, I could make my own. So I ended up making 5 haiku poems regarding the beach too.
The first one is all my poems and then the second two are the ones from the internet.

Scarlet And Ivy

After finishing Harry Potter, before the lock down, my friend lent me a book called 'Scarlet And Ivy'.
I had already heard her raving about so I gave it a try.
And what I thought was...
It was brilliant!
I was hooked, it was mysterious, heart racing, intriguing and little bit scary.
There are 6 books in the series altogether and the author is Sophie Cleverly.
The first book's blurb on the back is:
A creepy boarding school at midnight. A secret diary. A terrifying teach. A spine-tingling mystery must be solved...
When shy Ivy's trouble making twin Scarlet goes missing at Rockwood school, Ivy is invited to 'take her place'- she must think like Scarlet, act like Scarlet, become Scarlet. Determined to solve the riddle of her sister's disappearance, Ivy agrees- and her hunt for the truth will prove unexpectedly adventurous...
Would you like reading reading a book like this, because if so, I totally recommend this one?

What Is Your Order For The Harry Potter Books

This is my opinion on the books, from not really liking, to love!

I have chosen the Harry Potter Book images from Bloomsbury as I found, at the start you wondered why it had that cover and the title, and then by the end it all made sense, which is quite smart.
My favourite cover would be book 5 with it's pretty sunset and the overlook of the castle.
What is your favourite book cover?
What is your favourite book of the series?

My Holidays

In this slideshow is all the excersize, food making, card playing, easter Fest and Sorting I have been doing.
My favourite meal was probably the Cajun chicken, my favourite baking was proably either the Afghans or the Cupcakes.
If you got to try one meal/baking dish out of my creations, which one would it be and why?
What ahve you been doing these holidays?

After this post I have one more activity until I have completed and achieved my goal/log!
What would be some of your answers for these questions?
Can you think of any more questions?

The Quotes Of Harry Potter

The quotes from the books of Harry Potter are very heartwarming with some more than others.
I have put together 13 of my favourite quotes that might even relate into your daily life.
Out of all of these quotes my favourite quote is:
'Where your treasure is, your heart will be also'.
What is your favourite or some of your favourite quotes from this slideshow?
'
