Quality Blog Comments - Smart Relationships - Lesson Tahi

This session for our Manaiakalani, we were learning about creating quality blog comments and how we could improve others, that other people have done. For it, we had to get into groups, I went with Micki and Amy and we all looked at a blog post, then at a comment that another person has done, rated their comment, then wrote a better comment. After we had done that on the four slides, we read each others and helped each other to improve their comment. From doing this activity, I got a few tips on how I can improve my comments. If you look at my comments, what else do you think I can do to improve?
I really enjoyed this session as once I understood what I was doing, it was easy but challenging and enjoyable.

This slideshow was actually created by the Manaiakalani team, and it says all the steps we had to go through to get to the writing of the comments, so if you want to get straight to the comments, go to the bottom of the slideshow and click on slide 9.

Water In Christchurch

For our reading activities this week, we had to; Comment on 3 peoples blog, read chapters 4-6 of Pig Heart Boy, and do 3 other activities regarding the book and general knowledge. I have only managed to complete the 3 comments, the reading of the chapters, and 1 activity as I have had relievers for a couple of days and when you get a reliever, you never get to complete the normal amount of work.

So for this activity, I had to watch a video on water in Christchurch, then make a info graphic  (A poster but with heaps of information) about water in Christchurch.
I really enjoyed watching the video, as it was clear and not boring. The info graphic took a little while as I had to display and find the information from the video. I got all the images off google, so credit to google and the websites who made and took a photos of these images.
My favourite image, is the one of the man getting the sample from a private well, as it captures what you have to do and how simple it is to do.
What is your favourite image?

Did you know that Christchurch has a low amount of Chlorine in the water to protect us from contaminants while they fix the weak wells. Does your region have Chlorine in their water?

Periodic Table Science 1-18 - Week 2

This week, we were only meant to be doing 3 but I ended up doing because I wanted to keep on improving. I am learning the Periodic table 1-18, which I think I am slowly mastering.
Do you know the symbol for 'Na'? (I will tell the answer in my next post for the Prototec Periodic Table)

Fractangle - Maths Challenge

This maths Challenge was fractangles, which I found very easy as you just had to move the shapes around the place to make the fraction. If you check out my screencastify down below, it will make more sense. Did you find this easy?

Doors - Pobble 365

For our writing, we did Pobble 365 and had to choose a story starter for it.
My story starter was about Doors and you had to pick 6 different doors to write about. This is the picture.

Story Starter! - Doors

I placed my ear against the firm, wooden door. It felt warm: the sun had been shining on it all morning. From the other side I could hear voices. It sounded like two, or maybe three people whispering. One of the voices was a woman, and the others seemed to be men. Or was it the sound of a child?

The tone of their voices suggested great excitement. Had a great discovery just been made? Had a long-lost secret just been unearthed? Curious, I placed my hand on the shiny, metal door handle and began to turn. Creak… the door’s stiff hinges resisted me, but gradually gave way, and I was drenched in darkness as I stepped over the threshold…

The six doors that you can see in the picture above are all real. They all have their own stories to tell, about real people.

Can you write a story about going through one of the doors, and what might be on the other side?

In front of me is a yam coloured door, with square shapes imprinted in it’s cover, it has a wonky door handle that leans down to the right. A black semi circle shaped window is placed above. With a single, lonely tree next to the door, it felt very peculiar.

As I slowly stepped closer I hear voices from the inside, one could be a middle aged woman, another definitely sounds like a big confronting man, wait, I think there are also 2 kids in there. I go up to the door then my fearful side gets the better of me and I sprint back home like what i always do.

A few months later, I am up at the door for the millionth, the voices are always growing louder. My curiosity has increased and I think I am going to knock, wait no, I am going to knock, for real. Even though I was just meant to be asking people if they wanted to buy anything from the magazine for my part time work, I feel that after 4 months of going past and being inquisitive, now is the time to make a move.

My hand is in a fist facing the door, ‘knock, knock knock’. Then silence. The voices stop, they are probably surprised. I wait a few a seconds in silence then I knock again ‘knock, knock, knock’. This time there is scuttling like many cats sliding round a floor, the door opens and hovering over little 10 year old me is the confronting man with black shaggy hair, a tall, slim middle aged woman, but behind them, a girl and boy, I think they are twins as both looked the same aged, same height and same hair colour which was blonde. All four of them look cautious, like I could shoot them at any minute of time, but that would never happen as my body is statued to the ground, like it will never move again.

Oxymoron

For our reading of the 'Pig Heart Boy', we had to find the origin, meaning and ten examples of Oxymoron's.
I like Oxymoron's and I find them very clever and once you know about them, you will notice them more.
What is your favourite Oxymoron?
Can you think of any more examples?
