One of the activities this week for reading was to find the meaning of 10 words from an article that we read. The article was 9 facts on Tui (I have made an earlier post about the 9 facts about Tui). I searched up the meanings on word hippo (a dictionary) and then displayed the definition and synonyms on a google drawing. I am unsure whether to have the font colour white or black. What colour do you think would make the text stand out more?
I was a pupil at Belfast School and this blog is where I shared my learning. This blog has been archived, no further content will be uploaded or added. You are welcome to continue viewing posts, however commenting has been disabled.

Beer Named After Them!
This week in reading our focus has been learning about Tui. We started up with reading an article with a buddy (paragraph by paragraph) then went onto another article and made a visual of what we learnt about the 9 facts on Tui. I created a brochure/poster, it has taken about 3/4 of a reading session to complete. I am very proud of my visual as all the colours match by using a tool on Canva. Have you used Canva? What could I do next time to make my visual even better? Have you every spotted a Tui before? I have, in the botanical gardens while walking with my Dad.

Less Speed, Less Harm
It's Road Safety Week!
So we went onto the Ministry Of Transport site, where we had to extract information from the site and create a summary of the information. I chose to look into the information on the 2017-2019 data about who dies when someone speeds. I have create 3 pie charts:
- How many drivers involved
- How many passengers involved
- How others are affected even though their vehicle was not speeding
My Baby Boy
Kia Ora,
In Miss Roger's writing class, our learning intention has been to deepen our understanding of descriptive language by creating feeling to the reader. We also explored the effect of short sentences. This has taken us a week as we started off with watching the part of Marley and Me where Marley dies. (really sad movie, half of us cried) Then started our draft. In the editing process we worked on short sentences and then swapped our writing with another person/people so that they could share their opinion to help make our writing better.
What emotion did you feel? What could I add next?
The little puppy, had just been micro-chipped, all those precious years before. My baby boy. My old boy. My naughty boy. My mischievous, beautiful boy. Now lying on that same marble table. But ready to end his marvellous life.
I feel helpless. I know that after this day, nothing will ever be the same. My eyes pain as they flood with tears. My tummy sinks like the titanic. I think my legs will disconnect from the joints as they rattle together. The weight of my life is trapped in my throat.
Like having an asthma attack, my breathing shortens as his breaths become more infrequent.
When the pointed metal needle is inserted into his thigh, a knife enters my heart. I think about some of the best memories I had with him: when we used to play with his toy and tug it out of each others grip. I would do anything to relive those moments again. And again.
I have never been scared of needles but from now on, I will be scard for life.

Words I Can Not Even Pronounce
This week in maths we have been working on multiplication algorithms. I already knew how to do these so it was just a matter of working them out rather than learning the process. Multiplication algorithms are very useful when it comes to big numbers and then when I go onto high school. Our group had to answer the questions that Khan had provided on Khan Academy. Down below is my summary of what I got right and wrong in this unit on Khan Academy and a Screencastify on how to do multiplication algorithms.
10 Words
This week is... Road Safety Week!
So for reading, we had to read an article about road safety. Then find 10 words from the text to write down the meaning of. I chose words that were challenging and could be great to use in my writing if needed. We also had to make sure our visual was appealing to the audience. So what do you think? Are you interested in my creation?

The 5 Question Quiz
Welcome to...
Road Safety Week!
Our class are making little visuals for our little buddies in room 7 on road safety, to help them further their knowledge on how to be road safe. I have made a quiz on google forms. Please give my quiz a go and see if you are good at being road safe.
Are you a Road Safe Kiwi?

Hunting For Informtion
It's New Zealand Sign Language Week!
So one of our activities for Reading was to read an article with information on NZSL and then make a visual to teach others. I decided to put key notes onto a google drawing and then make a Screencastify reading out the facts. I thought NZSL had been created in the 1900's, not in 2006, so that came as a little surprise. Did you learn any new information?
Maths With Mrs Wing
Today, Mrs Wing taught my group (The Remainders) where we were solving fraction multiplication. Once told the process, it was quite simple. But sometimes I misread numbers which lead to a different answer. But my multiplication algorithms were nearly on point. Have you ever misread a number before?
All you need to do...
- Multiply the Numerator
- Multiply the Denominator
- Simplify

What Do You Think I Am Signing?
It's New Zealand Sign Language Week!
After creating a Screencastify of signing the NZ alphabet, we also had create another Screencastify signing our full name for another one of our reading tasks this week, so I have created a challenge for you:
I have signed my full name. And from the screencastify I created in the previous post signing the NZ alphabet, you have to try and work out what my full name is. Comment down below with your answer.
Signing The Alphabet
It's New Zealand Sign Language Week!
Because it is New Zealand sign language week, we had to create a screencastify signing the the alphabet. I already knew the alphabet so this task is more me teaching you.
Some important tips when signing the alphabet to someone:
- Look at the person when signing to them
- Mouth the letters/words while signing
- The vowels: a = thumb, e = index finger, i = middle finger, o = ring finger, u = pinky
- M = 3 fingers, N = 2 fingers, L = 1 finger
Results Summary
Today we watched video's and worked through the fraction as a decimal unit on Khan Academy. The video's I watched were great as they explained the workings out in a very simple way so when it go the questions they were not that hard to solve. I have already learnt the conversion of fraction to decimal before but I sometimes forget the process, especially in a test like situation. Have you ever learnt any maths from Khan Academy? It's free!

Dead, Like A Bullet To A Goat
Today in writing we started off with Miss Rogers drawing a picture on the whiteboard and all of us having to describe how the feeling of the picture, I am not going to tell you what Miss Rogers has drawn as I want you to guess from my description that I have written down below. This was meant to be a warm up but since Miss Rogers and Mr B thought they were so superb, we ended up writing for longer and needing to post it on our blogs. I have emboldened the similes and metaphors of my writing as that is what the focus was and what I need to work on. So what do you think I am doing in piece of writing, comment your answer down the bottom?
