Karate And Board Games

Last term, which felt like ages ago, the syndicate had a karate lesson each. So our class went to the hall and met a girl mid twenties (I forgot her name) she talked us through all the basics of karate like, how you bow, kick, punch and defence you can use when they punch or hold onto you. After we learnt the move we then practised either with a punching bag the the girl and our teacher held onto or with each other. I quite liked doing the karate session and would be interested to do it another one again.

Last Thursday as we have had a lot of tests recently, Mrs Wing and Miss McCombie decided to give us a treat and let Room 20 and 21 have a board games afternoon. At first I thought it would be the most boring afternoon ever, but when I played Trouble and Manacala with my friends I started to enjoy it, when we were playing we also got to listen to music. Have you played Mancala or Trouble before?

Brookie - A Cookie And A Brownie... Combined!

My friend (Emma) has been talking about this sweet snack/dessert for a while now, she said it is amazing! It is a cookie and brownie combined. So the gooey soft brownie with the hard shell and soft cookie, how delicious. I decided to have a little browse on the internet for a recipe. I put in vegan, so that it meant there was no dairy in the recipe as I am dairy intolerant. When I found the recipe down below, I noticed that it contained a lot of sugar, I am thinking of downing the size of sugar, but how? Do I just do less sugar and keep everything else the same measurement, or do I put a vegetable in it like carrot or zucchini? Please comment if you have an idea of what I can do so that I can a healthy brookie.

School Athletics Day 2020

Last Tuesday we had our school athletics day. It was for the whole day. We were split into year groups (I was in the year sevens), we then rotated through all the events. The order of our events and my placings were:

  1. Long Distance where we had to run 1.2 km, I did this in 5 minutes 40 seconds where I got 4th.
  2. High Jump where I jumped higher than I thought I could jump.
  3. Shot Put where I got 3rd by doing a 6.45 metre throw.
  4. Sprints (I do not know my placing).
  5. Discuss where I did well in the distance of the discuss but did do well in the direction as I nearly hit someone.
  6. Long Jump (I do not know my placing).
  7. House Relay where our 4 houses (Care/Red, Share/Blue, Learn/Green, Grow/Yellow) compete by having 2 people from each year group from years 5-8 where they run to each other (like a normal relay). I was chosen from my house. I honestly though that our house was going to lose by far but instead we won! Our house was cheering and high-fiving each other.
  8. Prefect vs Parent/Teacher Relay, this was the same again but instead it was the prefects in a team and the teachers/parents in a team. The prefects ended up winning!

After the prefects relay, we got ice-blocks and that was the conclusion for the athletics day. In the end result I only made it through to zones for 1 thing, Shotput, which I did not expect to get in for. Have you had your School Athletics day? Did you qualify for anything?

2020 Duathlon

Last Monday I went to Ruapuna Race Track to compete in the Canterbury Primary Schools Duathlon.

The Duathlon course for the year sevens was to: run 2 km, then bike 9 km and then run a further 1 km. I did all this in 43 minutes, this landed me in 58th which was out of 78 people.

The years sevens were the last race of the day which made it even more difficult as the sun had come out which made it warm plus there was a head wind at points which made you feel like you were going very slow.

Down below are some photos of me biking and running plus all the people from my school who competed in in too. Have you done a Duathlon?

Swimming Centrals 2020

This year as 1 of my goals that I set was to compete in the Canterbury Primary Schools Swimming Competition. As I won the school competition for Butterfly, then got third in the zones, I got through to Centrals (Canterbury's). I achieved my goal! Even though in Centrals I got 19th, I still found myself thinking it was a huge achievement. When I was doing it, there was no adults allowed inside the pool area so I turned into a social butterfly and talked to some of my friends who also had made it through, plus I made some new ones so that I had people to talk to. I really enjoyed going there and I hope I can make it through again next year. Have you ever qualified for Canterbury's? What was it for?

Snippets of My Calendar Art 2021

Every year everyone at Belfast has to do a piece of artwork for their calendar which will be for sale for parents and family memebers to buy. This year, Miss McCombie got us to do our own choice of artwork. I decided to do mine on the computer on google drawing where I made a sunset on the beach. As I do not think I am allowed to show you the whole thing, I just did little snippets. What snippet do you like the most?

My Collection Of New World Little Garden Plants

I have been collecting the New World Little Garden plants when my family have been shopping at New World. Altogether I have 31 plants. I only kept the ones that would be easy to grow in the garden and gave the others to other people who were collecting them too. I would have liked to get a basil plant as I really love basil as then I can make basil pesto but that is okay. Though, I did get a lot of different kinds of lettuce that will hopefully grow so we can use our own lettuce in salads. Do you have any New World Little Garden plants? What do you have in a salad?

Board Training

This is one of my sporting activities for the Summer I am doing. I decided to make it into a google drawing to show you. The picture I have is of us having a rest after paddling out to the pole and back.

What sport do you do in the Summer?

Who Am I?

For our writing we have been writing our speeches and for a warm up we had to search the internet or come up with our own 'who am I' riddles. Just in case you do not know what a who am I riddle is; it is where you explain what the thing is without telling then you have to guess what they are explaining. In a speech at the start it is good to do something like a who am I riddle so people are intrigued about what you could be talking about. On the slideshow there is a questions page then on the next is an answers page. Did you get any of the who am I answers before having a peek on the next page?

Please Be Kind

Today in Cybersmart we were learning to reply to a nasty comment online or face to face by saying something nice and closing it down before you start a flame war where it gets out of hand.  On the slideshow that we worked on, there was a video explaining and role playing what to say when a bad comment hits. To test if we had learnt something we had to buddy up (I went with Leandri) and role play saying a nasty comment and replying with nice one. We recorded this on Online Voice Recorder. After doing that we then had to read some articles of New Zealanders being kind. Next you had to brainstorm ten ideas of ways to show kindness. To display this, you got to chose a tool (I used Canva) to share your ideas and post it on your blog. Have you used Canva before to make a poster?

Computer Art

Today I decided I wanted to do some drawing on the computer. I first looked on Pinterest to find something I wanted to trace, downloaded it and sent it to my drive, got it on a google drawing and traced it using the Polyline tool. After I had drawn it, I have put it on the slideshow down below. Altogether I have drawn 5 things. All the things I drew were pretty simple and not too complicated.  Next time, when I want to draw something, I will make it more complicated. Do you have any ideas of what I could draw next?

Spring Holiday Fun

Here is a slideshow I made that shows you all the activities I have done over the October Holidays. Over the holidays I took photos of what I have been dong so that I can show you. My favourite activity I did was catching up with my friends as I have not seen some of them for a little while.

I have really enjoyed these holidays even though it has been busy at times. For me, the holidays went very fast, probably too fast. Though, there are only 43 days left of school until the new year. I hope you enjoyed the break, what did you get up to?

Read, Read, Read!

These October Spring holidays, I have been reading! I really enjoy reading, so it has been easy for me to read everyday before I go to sleep. Over the two weeks, I have read 5 books (1 I have only just started and have not put up on the slideshow yet).  4/5 I have borrowed from the library. When I am up to a good part of the book, I am really excited for when I go to bed so that I can read. Even though I loved them all, my most favourite book was the one I first read, Finding by David Hill.  It was awesome. Did you read any books over the holidays?
